Choosing the right features for your computer will be much to avoid frustration, upgrades, and loss of time and money. I have outlined the most important characteristics to consider when choosing your computer and made some suggestions!
Processor:
The processor is one of the most important determinant of system performance. The capacity of the processor determines the performance of the entire system. The other devices are only the processor in order to reach its full potential.
Processors are distinguished by clock speed measured in gigahertz (GHz) and bandwidth measured in bits.
They are also divided into two groups-single-core processors and dual-core processors. Dual-core processors improve performance by allowing you to run graphic-intensive games or programs to run as, for example, download music while running a security program.
Multi media production requires that the fastest available option of 2,6 GHz. 1,8 2,2 GHz is ideal for digital media files, spreadsheets, and presentation software.6 at 1.9 GHz would be suitable for web browsing, e-mail, watch movies, listen to music and organizing photos.
Memory:
The amount of memory, random access memory (RAM) also affects your computers performance. Greater amount of RAM you can run more programs at once and they run faster.3 to 4 GB OF RAM is ideal for memory intensive tasks, such as gaming, video editing and production of DVDs. 2 GB OF RAM is ideal for working with larger digital media files such as film and video files, graphic design software intensive files, spreadsheets, and run multiple applications simultaneously. 1 GB is recommended for a limited amount of activity such as word processing, e-mail, Web browsing, watching movies, listening to music and organizing photos.
Hard disk:
This is where all data is stored programs, drivers, digital photos, music, etc. ...What is on your current hard disk and what you have in mind that on your hard disk in the future should be considered a low to mid-sized hard drive that is ideal for documents, spreadsheets, and data regarding home finance is approximately 80 to 100 GB. do you have a growing media library or plan on installing computer games you can consider a maximum hard drive size. I would recommend buying a hard drive with as much space as you can afford.
Wireless network interface:
This feature allows you to access your wireless network where ever it is available for example, your Office, school campus, coffee shop, etc..Even if you do not have an immediate need for this feature see is strongly recommended for future use.
CD drive:
DVD/CD-RW combo drive allows you to watch DVDs, and burn CDs. Super Multi 8 x DVDR/RW with double-layer support allows you to view and both DVDs and CDs. you can also customize almost twice the amount of data on a DVD. HD DVD ROM offers high-def playback.
Below is a guide of the reference used by Ohio University in 2007 as a suggestion for minimal PC features for its students;
Intel Pentium 4 processor or equivalent, 2 GHz
512 MB memory
40 GB hard drive
64 MB OpenGL-capable graphics video card
Ethernet network interface card (NIC)
Wireless network adapter (if applicable)
I hope that this information is useful. I have outlined what I believe the most important characteristics to consider when choosing your computer's processor, memory, hard drive, wireless network interface and disc drive. making smart choices now and future of the curve to stay will be a lot of frustration in the future!
